Looking for the perfect business while staying at home with your babies? If you’re a mom with a strong desire to live on her own terms with the freedom and flexibility of an online business, you aren’t alone!

I know many moms that feel this way – myself included. That’s why I’m so grateful for the internet for bringing us like-minded work-from-home moms together!

My background is in public health, and I spent years going to school, getting a master’s degree, and working for the federal government – to realize I was unhappy and unfulfilled.

On top of that, I struggle with chronic illness and need an EXTRA amount of rest and self-care to function “normally”.

My business journey is long-winded, and I started off as a copywriter. 

And when I first got started in 2019, I had no idea the best way to start. I just wanted to make money from home! But I quickly learned that having a clear niche and target audience was essential for success in the online business world. So, I focused my efforts on helping wellness and health coaches craft impactful copy for their websites and marketing materials.

I also learned the importance of building an email list and providing value to my subscribers. This has been a game-changer for me in terms of connecting with potential clients and building a sustainable business.

While building my business, I’ve had to navigate the challenges of being a mom and managing my chronic illness. It hasn’t been easy, but having the flexibility of an online business has been a huge help.

I’m so grateful for the opportunities that the internet has provided me. I’m able to work from home, set my own schedule, and help other wellness entrepreneurs share their message with the world.

Being a mompreneur also means being part of a supportive community of other like-minded women who understand the struggles and joys of both motherhood and entrepreneurship. It’s a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey that empowers women to take control of their lives and create fulfilling careers while still prioritizing their families. 

And I absolutely love the community of moms because it’s a place to learn and grow with other great business owners with similar goals. How to Start a Business As a Stay-At-Home Mom

If you’re ready to go all in on being a work-at-home mom, congratulations! 

It’s possible for moms to make money online with a lucrative business. Your business could provide additional income for your kid’s extracurricular activities and family vacations.

A home business is a great way to stay passionate and fulfilled in your career while raising children. Here are some tips to start a home-based business so you can experience the best of both worlds.

Think about what you’re passionate about and what skills or knowledge you have that you can turn into an at-home business. This will help you focus and stand out in a crowded online market. If photography is your passion, start your own photography business. Rent a camera to start and take photos in a public park. Consider doing a free or discounted photoshoot for a family in exchange for a testimonial!

If you want to start a writing business – I got you! Think about your niche as a writer. Are you a copywriter? A ghostwriter for authors? Even within those niches, you can specialize even further. I spent my first 3.5 years in business focused on conversion copywriting for women entrepreneurs. I focused on sales pages and launch copy – although my true passion for writing is blogging! Create an online portfolio of your writing projects. Share your portfolio on websites like Upwork, LinkedIn, and in Facebook groups with other small business owners.

Once you have determined your niche, conduct market research to understand your target audience and competitors. After all, you don’t want to create and sell services online without actually knowing who you are marketing them to! 

You want your products and services to solve a specific problem your target audience is struggling with. A little bit of market research goes a long way when it comes to uncovering valuable insights about your target audience and how your business might help them. 

Use social media platforms to connect with your audience. Post a few polls on your Instagram stories, or join Facebook groups of other business moms to get feedback. You never know. Your market research conversation could be the start of a great long-term relationship!

2. Create a Business Plan

Create a business plan that details your goals, strategies, and financial projections. Use a business planner to write down your vision, mission, and goals. Detail your target audience, marketing strategy, and content pillars. Outline the products and services you will offer. 

Think about what resources you will need to start your own business where you work from home. 

Include a description of your target market, marketing and sales plans, and the products or services you will offer. Set realistic revenue and expense goals for your business, and identify the resources you will need to achieve those goals.

Think about how you will fund your business through personal savings, loans, or investors. Consider the legal and regulatory requirements for offering services from your home and other considerations for running a home-based business. For bloggers especially, make sure you have the necessary disclosures and policies listed on your website (my lawyer friend Amy has a great website protection bundle that covers all of this).

Consider signing up for a virtual office space for your business, and don’t forget about taxes!

The biggest misconception I see in this online space is that you don’t need a website. Nothing could be further from the truth! A professional website showcases your products or services and reflects your brand identity. Social media is great to market your business and engage with potential customers, but we also know these apps glitch daily and your account can get deleted at any time.

Focus on driving conversions to your email list – which you can do so in your blog posts, podcast episodes, YouTube videos, and social media.

Make sure your content marketing strategy includes search engine optimization (SEO) to improve your website’s visibility and attract more traffic. 

4. Launch Your Business and Monitor Your Progress

Once you have built your online presence, it’s time to launch your work-from-home business and start promoting your products or services. Monitor your progress and adjust your strategies as needed to achieve your goals.
